Warm Milk and Honey
Warm milk and honey is the perfect drink for when you have a cold. My mom used to give honey and milk to me when I had a sore throat or a cough and it was so comforting.
What Makes Warm Milk and Honey So Good for Colds and Sore Throats?
There is nothing scientific about this. But, generations of moms know that the honey feels so good going down. I always imagined the honey coating my sore throat – sort of like a cough drop.
Like hot tea, the steam coming off of the warm mug is great to breathe in when you are stuffed up. It helps you breathe easier.
Milk, Honey, and Sleep
Many people swear by having a mug of milk and honey before bed. They say that it helps them sleep better.
This can be especially good for kids. Drinking a small glass of warm honey and milk could become part of a bedtime ritual – just before teeth brushing, of course.
What Type of Milk is Best with Warm Milk and Honey
I’ve made warm milk and honey with all kinds of milk – even non-dairy milks like almond milk and cashew milk.
They all work, so choose your favorite milk.
How to Make Warm Milk and Honey
To make this drink, heat milk on the stove top or in the microwave until hot but not boiling.
Whisk in honey. I usually use about a tablespoon of honey per mug, but you can adjust it to your taste.
Variations
When I’m not feeling well, I like to keep my flavors simple. But, if you want to to make this drink of honey and milk more complex, try adding cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and/or cloves.
You can also use a frother [paid link] to make the milk foamy and fancy looking like they do at coffee shops. It’s one of my favorite little fun household gadgets.
I also love drinking warm cinnamon milk when I want to switch things up!
Comforting Desserts to Serve with the Drink
We all take comfort in different treats – usually what we had when we were kids. I always like simple classic treats when I’m not feeling well. My favorites are:
