1tablespoonwateror as much is needed to dissolve the sugar
Instructions
Mash the banana in a small mixing bowl.
Mix in the egg until combined.
Add flour and sugar and mix.
Pour in a splash of vanilla extract.
Stir in the baking powder.
In a microwave-safe mug, dissolve sugar in water. Heat for about 2 minutes, or until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
Remove the mug from the microwave and swirl the caramel sauce around the sides.
Spoon the banana bread batter into the mug and microwave again for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, or until a knife or toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes
Microwave power and size varies, so you may have to alter the cooking times. Keep an eye on the caramel especially to make sure it doesn't burn.
Instead of walnuts, use chocolate chips, crushed peanuts, pecans, or just make a plain banana bread if you prefer.
You can eat this banana bread right out of the mug, but I like to turn mine onto a separate dish and top with dulce de leche for a fun presentation.
